
HISTORY OF KLINE'S AUTO, INC.
Kline and
Casher Auto Body Supplies was started in 1938 when David Kline and Harry
Casher began selling auto body supplies at 610 Linden Street, in
Allentown, PA. They created the markets in Allentown and Harrisburg, PA,
and in 1941 they split the company. David stayed in Allentown and Harry
moved to Harrisburg. The Allentown company was renamed Kline’s Auto Body
Supplies.
In 1964 David Kline’s
son Nathan, who had taken over the business, moved the company to its
current location and corporate headquarters at 630 North 13th
Street, Allentown, PA. Moving into the industrial markets, he renamed
the company Kline’s Auto & Industrial Supplies, Inc. We have been active
in supplying the automotive and industrial markets with coatings,
abrasives, equipment and supplies ever since. As Kline’s business grew,
locations were added in Hazleton and Reading, PA.
In 1971 Allen Gribben
and Roger Kuhn, shareholders, acquired Kline’s. Between 1971 and 2000
the company grew by a factor of 10 with 33 employees servicing the
market. In July 2000, a merger acquisition of Barkay Enterprises, Inc.
brought Robert Barnett to the company as a shareholder and added
distribution points in Bethlehem and Stroudsburg, PA and Phillipsburg,
NJ. We decided to change the name, for the sake of brevity to Kline’s
Auto, Inc. Since July 2000 we have acquired three additional businesses
and merged them into the Kline’s organization. In 2004, the passing of
Roger Kuhn left Allen Gribben and Robert Barnett to continue the growth
process of the Kline’s organization as its shareholders and Garry Sandt
to oversee operations as General Manager.
Today Kline’s Auto,
Inc. has locations in Phillipsburg, NJ, Allentown, Hazleton, Pottsville,
Reading, Stroudsburg and Scranton, PA and employs over 70 people. We
are involved in our communities through various charitable events, and
we are involved in our industry through local auto body associations and
connections to vo-tech schools.
